J-E-T-S … JETS! JETS! JETS! That’s the simple chant that gets New York Jets fans riled up as they watch “Gang Green” on the grid iron.
The New York Jets, known as the Titans for a short period, were founded in 1960 as part of the AFL. The team struggled in its early years, but its fortunes began to change when legendary quarterback Joe Namath joined the team. Renowned for his charisma as well as his outstanding abilities on the field, “Broadway” Joe led the team to their only Super Bowl win in 1969, besting the heavily favored Indianapolis Colts of the NFL. The Jets’ victory was particularly significant because it helped pave the way for the 1970 NFL–AFL merger.
The New York Jets posted losing seasons for most of the 1970s, but came roaring back in the 1980s thanks to their impressive defensive game. New York Jets Ticket Holders were treated to the on-field display of a fierce defensive line nicknamed “The New York Sack Exchange.” The Jets were occasionally successful throughout the remainder of the 1980s and the early 1990s, but the team experienced its greatest extended period of success beginning in 1998. That season ended with the Jets—led by former Giants coach Bill Parcells and running back Curtis Martin and wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson—losing to the Denver Broncos in the 1999 AFC championship game.
The Jets still have yet to truly return to the glory they enjoyed during the Joe Namath era. Regardless, New York Jets Ticket holders show up faithfully to Jets home games at MetLife Stadium hoping for the team’s fortunes to change. If you’re a Jets fan for life, then Golden Tickets has your ticket to the all on-field action.
